typography research

My animation piece which will be supported by my poem book will be a typography piece consisting of the poem, I have contacted RSPCA to include them within my animation to express and highlight the work they do but also to use them as a reference! my animation will use typography to reveal my poem in the image of the RSPCA logo.

This typography piece demands a reaction, it is so powerful and meaningful the animation really draws out the message within the piece. I would love my animation to have a similar effect!

The popular typography piece which is voiced by Stephen Fry is a classic and had to be included, the animation, create by Australian Matt Rogers tackles a controversial argument but expressed through an animation!

illustration research

Paris-based artist Sebastian Del Grosso combines his talents as an illustrator and photographer to create incredibly creative self-portraits. Taking on an almost cartoon-like aesthetic, the series is titled “L'esquisse dune vie,” translating to “The Sketch of a Life.”

i have chosen this artist because his work is based around the combination of illustrations and photography. Merging them both together to create something new. His pieces feature himself as mine feature the story of a dog, I have drawn interest from this artist as the powerful images speak for themselves.

improved stills

having perfected the typography within my stills there was no life in them to really do my poem justice, they were line drawings with no technique or style to link them all so i played around to see what could bring them to life and i decided to merge my stills with the images i created them from, photographs of various other dogs so i created my own technique to have half line drawing and half photograph images. Of course i could not actually use these images since they were taken by others and it would be copyright so i decided to use them as references to create my own.

stills with american type

After a lot of experimenting i went back to the simplistic typography but this time as an American font, the style is a classic typewriting font which gives my stills a simple but powerful feel! To present my stills i decided to create them within a poem book and poem books mainly use American fonts so testing a few i decided on this format!

american type

After looking for graphic and powerful typography i came across some American poems, animal purpose poems being one of those! i was inspired to keep my font simple as these poems have and hey stand out and speak for themselves.

Stills merged font

I then began to experiment to develop alternate outcomes, here i tried merging the fonts so the most powerful words would stand out, although i got that effect it still looked a little unappealing as a final piece to deliver with my animation.

Stills altered text

Having the stills as a starter i began to think how to improve them to hammer my message across and i believed the text was too subtle for such a massive statement so i tried various fonts with various stills to see which would look more striking!

Animal cruelty stills

Once my poem was created from various types of cruelty to dogs as pets i decided to create still images for each to represent a verse each, I believe as a starter my still images work very well to bring the poem to life and give it a simplistic look, The typography i used is a flowing soothing feel.
